¡Hola!/Hei!/Hi!/Ciao!/Salut!/привет!/Hallo!
I’m Anni, a 20-year old from Germany currently in my first year studying Philosophy/Politics at the University of Glasgow. For two years, I had the best time of my life studying at UWC Red Cross Nordic on the west coast of Norway. I graduated in May 2019, and then went on to spend 7 months in a small town in southern Ecuador, with the Global Citizen Year program.
On this blog, I documented my time at UWC RCN from the very beginning, so if you're looking for first-hand experience, you can find it here. I also write about my travels around the world (mostly to visit my UWC friends ;) ). When I moved to Ecuador in September 2019, I also captured those adventures here.
Attending a UWC had been my dream for a long time. Three years before applying, I stumbled across a video of a German youtuber who visited a student at Robert Bosch College, and immediately I fell in love with the concept of the movement and its mission.
I am a huge lover of books even though I rarely find time to read - living at RCN has not made that better, sadly. But when I do, I easily get lost in the infinite world of imagination and it makes me really happy.
The struggles and rights of the LGBTQ+ community are also very important to me, which is why I joined our GAS (Gender & Sexuality Group) at RCN from the very beginning and later ended up leading it in my second year.
I am a huge language-nerd and get excited at every opportunity to expand my skills. At RCN I had the great chance to take Norwegian classes, and besides that and obviously German, I speak English, French, Italian and thanks to my time in Ecuador, Spanish. Currently I'm teaching myself Russian, and in the future I want to learn Arabic.
I guess it won't surprise you that I enjoy writing a lot. This blog initially was my way to keep in touch with my mother tongue, German, but since a lot of my friends don't speak that language, I've started to increasingly write in English as well. I've been wanting to become a journalist for several years now. Thanks to my work with our Amnesty International youth group at RCN, it then became clear to me that I want to find a way to combine that career wish with human rights activism.
If you have any questions about campus life, RCN, UWC in general or Global Citizen Year, I am more than happy to help you! Just leave a comment below or contact me through social media/e-mail/whatsoever. :)
- Anni <3
